*Exegetical Fallacies* identifies the common grammatical, lexical, cultural, theological, and historical mistakes Bible exegetes can make. Carson argues that when talking about what should not be done in exegesis, the hope is to interpret the Word of God aright. The second edition of *Exegetical Fallacies* updates old fallacies and presents new ones to help correct these errors while interpreting texts. (60)

Mixed Bag. . . Read with Consideration

When Carson's good, he's very, very good - and when he's not good, he's biased by his complementarian, Calvinist theology. This is mostly solid, but be aware of his biases, as he ends up committing at least one exegetical fallacy of his own to critique an egalitarian scholar (strawman fallacy and ignoring an entire clause. . . as well as being facetious instead of responding to his argument with the seriousness it deserves. )

Carson does good work, but he's by no means perfect.

Helpful guides especially for pastors to see if they make fallacies in translating/interpreting the Greek.

a sampling of some exegetical errors

Carson surveys some of the common errors made in exegesis. This book is helpful for teachers who want to sharpen their abilities to draw sound inferences from a text. Some knowledge of Greek is essential for most of the book; Carson also makes some references to the Hebrew text of the Old Testament, but this book will be accessible to those with only Greek.

    Helpful, but not essential

The book title pretty much sums up Carson's intention; To examine the fallacious use of philosophical, grammatical, hermeneutical and exegetical errors befalling most preachers. I say most preachers because Carson gives examples of a plethora of mistakes used by quite renown pastors and teachers. Hence, if they make exegetical errors, well, you can imagine a pleb like me. An intermediate knowledge of Greek is required!\\r\\n\\r\\nHelpful, but not essential to the pastor. \\r\\n\\r\\n3 oo 5
