Ezekiel lived in times of great political turmoil and witnessed the final collapse of Judah to the Babylonian empire. His total, unquestioning willingness to do God’s will, often at great cost to himself, during the long years of his faithful ministry in exile, is a shining example to Christian workers everywhere.
The message of Ezekiel is one of God’s faithfulness to his covenant, both in carrying out judgement on sin and in the restoration and blessing of a remnant through the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The prophet’s final vision looks forward to days of great blessing, encompassing not only the restoration from exile, but the blessings of the new convenant and the final glory of heaven.

Good devotional and Bible study prep

This a solid evangelical study of this neglected great Old Testament prophet. Written in a helpful style that is well summarised and categorised to help you get your head and heart around this huge, detailed book. It's detailed enough to give you a really good picture and understanding of the flow and themes of Ezekiel. If you want an in-depth verse-by-verse commentary then you'll need to go elsewhere, but this one will help you in your daily Bible reading, group Bible studies, and essential to have open for any preachers game enough to preach a series of sermons. Derek Thomas' work here has inspired me enough to want to preach such a series! Helpfully pointing us to Jesus, the ultimate fulfillment of what Ezekiel is prophesying about. It contains a few typos and wrong page references for maps etc. but this doesn't take away from the quality of his commentary. Pick this one up if you don't know much about Ezekiel . . . but read the Bible first!
