A perfect blend of medical drama and spiritual insight, *Gray Matter* is a fascinating account of Dr. David Levy's decision to begin asking his patients if he could pray for them before surgery. Some are thrilled. Some are skeptical. Some are hostile, and some are quite literally transformed by the request.

Each chapter focuses on a specific case, opening with a detailed description of the patient's diagnosis and the procedure that will need to be performed, followed by the prayer "request". From there, readers get to look over Dr. Levy's shoulder as he performs the operation, and then we wait - right alongside Dr. Levy, the patients, and their families - to see the final results.

Dr. Levy's musings on what successful and unsuccessful surgical results imply about God, faith, and the power of prayer are honest and insightful. As we watch him come to his ultimate conclusion that no matter what the results of the procedure are, "God is good", we cannot help but be truly moved and inspired.

    Inspiring

Nothing is more inspiring than bare openness and honesty. Dr Levy shares how his personal journey of how he came to acknowledge God and to gently lead his patients to Jesus through prayer. This is truly an example of evangelising in whatever area you are called to do. I highly recommend this book to anyone in the medical profession.

    A Changed Man

If you like inspirational stories and are looking for natural ways to share your faith, I would highly recommend Gray Matter. David I. Levy with Joel Kilpatrick have produced an honestly told, beautifully written story of Dr Levy's journey praying for his patients. Dr Levy is an American neurosurgeon who let go of a selfish lifestyle to care deeply for his patients on a human level. Praying with them has added an extra dimension to his superb clinical skills. Many people have been helped and some have taken on a Christian faith for themselves. Dr Levy acknowledges that not every patient who is operated on and prayed for is healed but in most cases, the prayer has helped in some tangible way. The case histories (identities protected) of course are heart warmingly told. I highly recommend this book.

    So good!

I highly recommend this book. I was constantly having 'wow' moments while reading it and really looked forward to reading the next chapter. It's very encouraging and helps us to understand what an impact we can have on other souls, if we just have a little bravery.

The grass roots of sharing our faith

Anyone desiring to share their faith with others will find a wealth of encouragements in this book. Perhaps the most important aspect is that David Levy reveals the way that he learned through experience, Jesus' way to speak with and love people. One does not have to be a neurosurgeon or any kind of surgeon to benefit from his experiences. He shows that pointing others to Christ begins with a humble heart.
