There is a popular view that our sanctification happens mainly by thinking more deeply about what Jesus has already done for us. But rather than describing one simple formula, Scripture portrays the process of our transformation into the likeness of Christ in a rich variety of ways. In this short book, longtime counselor, teacher, and writer David Powlison weaves together personal stories and exposition of Scripture to cast a biblical vision for the personalized ways God changes, grows, and matures his people. Arguing against a reductionist view of sanctification that portrays it as a one-size-fits-all process, this book aims to widen our view of sanctification as we minister to others in light of the many ways God conforms us into the image of Christ.

    No Formula on Sanctification

The thesis of this book is that there is no """"one-size fits all"""" approach to sanctification. God works differently on each individual, as each individual is unique. I think what drives the author to write this book is that the many reductionistic messages on sanctification that tells us that if we just focus on our justification / status before God, then we will progress greatly on the sanctification process. Powlison does not reject this, but argues that this is one of the way God sanctifies, and not the only way. \\n\\nFurthermore, the author also gives the ways of which God sanctifies us, i. e. the work of God, the word of God and community. Using stories of his own conversion and sanctification experience, and others as well, this book has enriched my understanding on sanctification.
