    Great overview

Sinclair clearly states the purpose of this book, it's not for a (even close to) comprehensive history of the church, but just a glance at particular events and people that have shaped the church (in his eyes). It is a delightful and gentle read providing an overview of certain figures. Yes, many details are skipped and we don't really learn much about each figure but I still think it's a good book for anyone looking to dip their toes into church history.

    Excellent Read

Sinclair Ferguson has done it again! This book is simply awesome. \\r\\n\\r\\nFerguson's In the Year of Our Lord seeks to capture a bird-eye view of 20 centuries of Church history into 20 concise chapters. Just like a short two minutes trailer of a 2 hrs long movie, Ferguson creatively enables his readers to dip their toes in the deep waters of Church history. \\r\\n\\r\\nAlthough the book summarises long years in short sentences, it is far from a bland survey. It is filled with engaging biographical stories and excellent quotes from wise Christian teachers from the past. Also, Ferguson's own Bible-saturated reflections are immensely helpful to test history against the unchanging Word of God. Simply put, this book is creatively stirring and edifying. \\r\\n\\r\\nAll kind of audiences can glean much wisdom from this book. Particularly, those who have not yet delved into intricacies of Church history would find this reading this book to be a fruitful endavour. On the journey to understand Church history, this book can serve as a faithful travelling companion. \\r\\n\\r\\nIn short, I highly recommend this book!
