Leota?s garden was once a place of beauty, where flowers bloomed and hope thrived. It was her refuge from the deep wounds inflicted by a devastating war, her sanctuary where she knelt before a loving God and prayed for the children who couldn?t understand her silent sacrifices.     Now, eighty-four-year-old Leota...

Leota?s garden was once a place of beauty, where flowers bloomed and hope thrived. It was her refuge from the deep wounds inflicted by a devastating war, her sanctuary where she knelt before a loving God and prayed for the children who couldn?t understand her silent sacrifices.

Now, eighty-four-year-old Leota Reinhardt is alone, her beloved garden in ruins. All her efforts to reconcile with her adult children have been fruitless, and she voices her despair to a loving Father, her only friend.

Then God brings a wind of change through unlikely means: one, a college student who thinks he has all the answers; the other, the granddaughter Leota never hoped to know. But can the devastation wrought by keeping painful family secrets be repaired before she runs out of time?

A very different kind of story

Leota is a grandmother who is all but forgotten as she lives in her rundown cottage. The family don't have time for her and as she knows she doesn't have much longer she desires to make a connection with her granddaughter. Leota tells her story as the pages turn from the perspective of an old woman looking back. It was very saddening that her children simply had little care for her and cared more for the inheritance that they would receive. In the end, the only person who truly understood her and who had helped her thrive in her old age was her granddaughter.

    slower paced but great message

Leota's Garden was a heart-wrenching and honest look at family and generational relationships. \\n\\nThis book was a slower paced book which explored the relational issues that many families encounter and the cycles that many relationships find themselves in. Through the characters lives and how they interact with each other you can see how God made us all unique with our quirks and different personalities and for different purposes. It also shows us that He gives us the power to forgive and to overcome past hurts and regrets and the memories that hold us captive. \\n\\nI felt the characters in this story were all very real and could be the family living next door or down the street. I loved that the characters were all unique and none of them perfect - it gives us hope that we all can change. \\n\\nI loved the strong imagery in this book - in your mind you can visualise Leota's house, Leota's garden and the transformation that takes place overtime. \\n\\nThe book was a slower pace than i normally like, but i thoroughly enjoyed this book and the message it conveyed. I hope you take the time to read it!

    Excellent read!

This might be one of Francine Rivers' older books but it still felt so relevant when I was reading it. This story is one of the best that I've read. The plot was very engaging and as usual, there are plenty of thought-provoking moments throughout the read. I couldn't put down the book and finished it in three days!
