    Poignant and pastoral

This book is directed towards those who suffer from depression, and draws from the writings of the 19th century preacher Charles Spurgeon, who spoke openly about his struggles with depression and being “marked by melancholy. ” It is filled with nuggets of gold by Spurgeon, and is marked by Eswine’s poignant and pastoral writing style.

    Pastoral and Encouraging

There are many books out there that speak to the topic of depression, typically from a psychological and counselling standpoint, but Spurgeon's Sorrows does something different. Zack Eswine looks at the topic through the experiences and reflections of Charles Spurgeon, a 19th Century English preacher who also suffered from depression. Eswine provides realistic answers to questions that concern the topic of depression and points to how the gospel provides hope to those who suffer from it. I recommend this book to those who suffer from depression and pastors or Christians who know others who suffer from depression. This would be a very helpful and encouraging book to add to your library.

Running low on hope? This is for you!

This book is a nugget of gold! If you struggle with depression, then when you read this book you'll be soon saying to yourself: """"how did he know?"""" Eswine, through Spurgeon's own thoughts and reflections on the topic, has compiled something that answers the deep longing in the depressed person's heart: """"can anyone possibly understand how I feel?""""
