Shannon was abducted at age 16 and forced to assist the Jacoby crime family. Now, faking her own death has enabled her to escape. Shannon contacts private investigator and former cop Matthew Dane to help put her captors behind bars; his efforts to help her soon stir up a hornet's nest of secrets.
A Compelling New Mystery from Dee Henderson!
Abducted at the age of sixteen and coerced into assisting the Jacoby crime family, Shannon Bliss has finally found a way out. She desperately wants to resume some semblance of normal life, but she also knows she has some unfinished business to attend to. She has enough evidence to put her captors behind bars for a very long time.
When Shannon contacts private investigator and former cop Matthew Dane to help her navigate her reentry into society, she quickly discovers that gaining her freedom doesn't mean her troubles are over. For one thing, her brother is the leading candidate in the race for Illinois governor, and news of her escape will create a media frenzy. For another, the ransom her family reportedly paid years earlier appears to have been a scam; no one knows what happened to the money. And then there's the fact that Shannon's escape involved faking her own death. If the Jacoby family learns she is still alive, they'll stop at nothing to silence her.
If justice is to be done, and if Shannon's life is ever to get on track again, Matthew will need to discover exactly what happened to her--even if it means stirring up a hornet's nest of secrets.

I've read most of Dee Henderson series but this is my favourite one. So captivating right from the start; there is suspense, emotions, lighthearted humour and she also paints a beautiful story of faith and redemption. Highly recommend!

Ok but not as expected!
I was so excited to pick up my copy of Taken! The front cover looked intriguing and the back cover description sounded like it would be suspenseful and exciting. However the book did not turn out as I expected. \\r\\nThe story is ok, Shannon was kidnapped 11 years ago and turns up on the doorstep of a PI whose own daughter had been kidnapped years before. She turns to him for help because she believes he will understand her situation and what she has gone through. However, the cover made it sound much more suspenseful than it actually was. \\r\\nI found the story lacking any suspense! I was constantly waiting for something dramatic to happen throughout the book yet the climax never really came. \\r\\nThe characters did a lot of talking but there was no real action. There was no """"edge of your seat"""" moments where you felt like anything might happen. Everything seemed to fall into place a little too easily, and the """"bad guys"""" weren't really believable as they played no part in the story except as a bad memory that the characters talked about. \\r\\nI felt really flat and let down at the end of the story as I thought that not much had really happened, the story had so much potential to be a gripping drama, but was sadly lacking.

Uncomfortable
Dee Henderson is a clever author, able to bring out suspensful stories and keep the reader engaged for the duration. This new novel explores the aftermath of a young womans escape from kidnappers, years after she went missing. It deals with the reclaiming of her independence and beginning a new life. Although this concept is a good one, the author has really made this a long drawn out novel, making it hard to keep interested. In addition, she creates a slowly blossoming romance between the 27 year old woman and a friend 15 years her senior. This is rather uncomfortable and extremely questionable. I found it difficult to persist with the story til the very end and was suprised Dee would choose to create such a large age gap between the two main characters. Unfortunately this is a book I recommend fans skip, and try one of her other novels.
