In the aftermath of WWI, Grace Abernathy is determined to reunite with her family, crossing an ocean to convince her widowed sister to return home to England. Yet Toronto holds more tragedy and her nephew Christian is now in the custody of his paternal relatives, the formidable Easton family, who rejected Grace's sister because of her low social status.

Unconvinced the Eastons can be fitting caretakers, Grace jumps at the chance to be Christian's nanny and observe the family up close under an assumed name. In the course of her new position, she is shocked to discover herself falling for Andrew Easton, the boy's guardian. Unfortunately, Andrew is promised to a spoiled socialite who will make a terrible stepmother for Christian. Will Grace be able to protect her nephew ... and her heart?

    First in the series

I loved this book. I have never read anything by Susan Anne Mason before but I am now keen to read the rest of this series and more! It was one of those books were I squeezed in time to keep reading because I did not want to put it down. The characters were so easy to connect with.

    Really beautiful

I really enjoyed this book, despite it being set during a period of history I wouldn't normally read. The characters were engaging and their story really drew me in. There were moments that made me smile and others which tugged at my heart (okay, a lot of those heart-tugging moments!). A really beautiful story of family and stepping up to be the people God asks us to be.

    an enjoyable historical novel

Susan Anne Mason really has a knack for bringing to life the Edwardian19-teens era - I felt like I was really there in the opulent mansions and busy streets of Toronto. I would class this as an 'easy read' historical novel, but still very engaging and enjoyable. If you enjoy authors such as Tracie Peterson, then you will like this.
