A small book about a life changing event

I told a few people in my church that I was looking forward to reading this book by Birkett. I received a warning,""""Birkett is a serious writer. This book might be a little too heavy for you. """" I pleased to find that these early predictions were completely wrong. \\r\\n \\r\\nBirkett focuses on the people of the Reformation story, both the common folk who were affected and the 'Reformation man' of history. Focusing on the people element of the history makes it relatable and understandable. We are drawn in with details of the 'Reformation men's' study, their lives and achievements. Their portraits are included to appeal to our visual senses. Birkett has done a beautiful job, at transforming years of her university research into a book that is highly suitable, for the everyday person can read and learn about the Reformation. \\r\\n\\r\\nBirkett shows us the Reformation sparks all over Europe and gives us the history of the key historical characters. I wish my school history teacher, could have made ancient history, as interesting as Birkett has made the Reformation in her book. \\r\\n\\r\\nBirkett has produced a very readable and concise book. I read it in two nights and was entertained and enlightened on the topic of the Reformation. The Essence of the Reformation would be a great book for a Growth Group, who wanted to have a more in-depth investigate into the history of the Reformation.
