Thomas Schreiner, a respected scholar and a trusted voice for many students and pastors, offers a substantial and accessibly written overview of the whole Bible. He traces the storyline of the scriptures from the standpoint of biblical theology, examining the overarching message that is conveyed throughout. Schreiner emphasizes three interrelated and unified themes that stand out in the biblical narrative: God as Lord, human beings as those who are made in God's image, and the land or place in which God's rule is exercised. The goal of God's kingdom is to see the king in his beauty and to be enraptured in his glory.

    Clear and well presented

Thomas Schreiner has put together a fantastic piece of work, his writing is clear, helpful and well informed. While the book has a strong theme running all the way through, what I most appreciate about this book is that you could pick it up and for example read his section on 1 and 2 Kings and get a solid overview of the book of 1 and 2 kings witch some great gleaning. A book to be read from cover to cover but also to keep returning to as you study and or preach on each book of the bible. This books has a look is much like James M. Hamilton Jr. , book God's Glory in Salvation Through Judgment, together these books are absolute treasure and compliment each other very well. Highly recommended.

    Accurate, Polished and Insightful

This is a rare, great, single volume, scholarly book on Biblical Theology. Thoughtful Christians will surely benefit from it much. It is beautifully presented, and feels good with a nice hard cover, but no dusk jacket - for easy handling. \\r\\n\\r\\nTom really achieves his aims. It is a well woven story-line under the theme of the King in His Beauty. He draws upon rich insights given by William Dumbrell regarding creation and covenant. Sin, Israel, failure, Christ, cross and redemption are clear. Often quoted are Brevard Childs (canon), Wenham, Schlatter, Beale, Gentry, Webb, Wellum and Von Rad. Indexes are great. Almost no Calvin, Luther, Edwards or Barth. \\r\\n\\r\\nI would like more emphasis on the Trinity, the Fatherhood of God, and especially service in the new creation - the telos beyond the arriving to see the King in his Beauty. \\r\\n\\r\\nIn the Epilogue we read that """"The grand narrative has ended"""". Oh? We began as Vice-regents in creation, but why not consider what it means to be the redeemed vice-regents, participants in the Divine nature? Those invited to the banquet, shall enjoy co-serving, as co-heirs of the cosmos. In Isaiah, and Revelation Schreiner mentions it, but ends with being 'safe' in the heavenly city'. Great. Surely though, an adventure remains. \\r\\n\\r\\nSome more superlatives, and risky adjectives would help (USA's overused word """"awesome"""" might help), but I know - the scholars might disapprove. Thanks Thomas.
