Step through the looking glass. Slay the Jabberwock. Seek the King.  Alice is not prepared to face what awaits beyond the Tulgey Wood. When she and the rest of Team Heart enter the fourth and final Wonderland Trial, it's up to her to lead them to victory. But this Trial is...

Step through the looking glass. Slay the Jabberwock. Seek the King.  Alice is not prepared to face what awaits beyond the Tulgey Wood. When she and the rest of Team Heart enter the fourth and final Wonderland Trial, it's up to her to lead them to victory. But this Trial is more than a game. If Alice and the others fail to defeat the Jabberwock and reveal the truth about Wonderland, more than points and fame will be lost.  Chess Shire never believed he'd make it this far. Now he's stuck navigating a Trial he's seen but doesn't remember, all while searching for the brother he left behind. Not everything is as black and white as the game that shares his name. And if Alice discovers his deepest regret? Chess might just lose her too.  Apart, Chess and Alice scour the eight squares of the Heart Trial in search of memories, truth, and an Ivory King who seems more illusion than reality. Will they learn to lead together to face their greatest fears? Or will they remain pawns in a queen's game, never truly seeing the Wonderland they've come to believe in?

    Fascinating re-imagination!

After loving the first book of this duology, I’ve been counting down the days to this one being released. And, of course, it didn’t disappoint. How could it when told by such a masterful storyteller?

I will admit up front that I struggled with the first half of it, and might have given up if I didn’t have such faith in the author and her gift of pulling all the pieces together into a beautiful story. It was difficult to know what was real and what was illusion (which I’m pretty sure was the point!), and there were a lot of characters and relationships to keep track of.

But then, just as I hoped, there was that moment when it all started to fall into place, and from that moment on, I was utterly captivated. There were scenes that tugged my heart, and some that had me close to tears, and I fell in love with the characters and their journeys all over again in a far deeper way. There were so many layers to each character. Chess, in particular, totally has my heart. What stories they all have to tell!

An absolutely beautiful story of second chances and hopes and dreams and life—and Wonderland—being so much fuller than we could ever imagine. Such a good story (duology), and one I know I’ll enjoy even more the second (third, fourth, fifth…) time.
