I love Antonia Woodward's clear, colorful illustrations. This retelling includes Jesus' entry to Jerusalem on a young donkey, Jesus overturning market stalls in the temple, the Last Supper, Jesus praying in the garden, his betrayal and trial before Pilate, Jesus carrying the cross, the crucifixion (feet on the cross shown without blood), Jesus crying out, ""My task is complete!"", the earth rumbling and sky going dark, women meeting an angel at the tomb, Jesus greeting friends by the sea (no wounds shown).
One feature that sets this telling apart from many others we've read is that the author frequently ""quotes"" the characters but put things in her own words to add meaning for children. For example:
""My task is complete!"" rather than the common ""It is finished. ""
""I will do whatever you ask. "" rather than ""not my will but yours be done. ""
Referring to Jesus as God-on-Earth and The Promised One.
I particularly liked that the Last Supper was included as I want to teach my toddler how it fits into the Easter story.
