This book (and its predecessor) helped open my eyes to see what church ministry could be. The New Testament vision of all members of the church seeking to build one another up is a beautiful one, yet often aspirational. Marshall and Payne provide leaders with tools to think through how to encourage such a disciple-making culture in their churches.

the heart of what we're all about as Christians and as a church
I was one of the many who profited deeply from Marshall and Payne's previous work, The Trellis and the Vine. There are so many books on discipleship - but very few that explain what a disciple is, work through the Scriptures to see how disciples are made, and from this basis give clear, wise, practical advice on how to bring this process into the heart of church life. This book, the Vine Project, is such a brilliant book - not by being remarkably clever or coming up with new things, but by keeping the gospel central and God's people in focus. The book is more of a long-time commitment than a quick fix, thus our church is just getting started working through it. But the trajectory this book leads you on is so rich, deep and broad. I'm excited to where God will lead us. Highly recommended.
