The NIV is already the most readable of the major modern translations, and setting it in a single column removes the last obstacle for people who want to read it at length. Without the narrow columns and the centre gutter, paragraphs run their natural width and the page looks like ordinary printed prose. A good choice for reading through the Bible in a year, or for anyone new to Scripture.
