The Choosing (#01 in A Seer Novel Series)

Rachelle Dekker's debut novel, The Choosing, the first in the Seer trilogy is a must read. Rachelle is the eldest daughter of Ted Dekker. \\r\\nThe Choosing is a dystopian novel that is gripping and a real page turner. But there are a few violent and graphic scenes in this book so beware if that isn't your sort of thing. \\r\\nFrom the opening sentence to the closing sentence, I was gripped. Rachelle's writing is excellent and the description helps to invite the reader in and really helps to tell the story. \\r\\nI thoroughly enjoyed this novel and have read the following two books The Calling and The Returning which are equally as great. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dystopian and suspenseful fiction or any fans of Ted Dekker as Rachelle's style is very similar. \\r\\n

I can't honestly say I enjoyed this book, though that was in no way the fault of the author. It's incredibly well written with well developed themes and characters. It was just a bit too intense for me, especially when I was expecting more of a romancecoming of age story. Those aspects were in there, but there were also a lot of torturereligious sacrifice scenes which I found fairly disturbing. \\r\\n\\r\\nI loved the theme of a person's true worth, which wound through the entire book as the main character wrestled with finding hers. But, due to the torture scenes, I'd be fairly carefulreticent in who I recommend the book to. \\r\\n
