The Lines Between Us

I thought it was a romance. It's not really, but I loved it anyway. I'd say it's more like a treatise on human motivation in a novel format. That might sound boring, but it's not. The writing style is engaging and enlightening. Secondly, I'd call it a mystery, and lastly, there was a little romance. If you have concrete ideas about what will happen, you'll probably be disappointed. Just come in letting the characters sort themselves out. They've got growing up to do and learning about each other. Usually, I would have been disappointed that my plot expectations weren't matched, but I was too in awe of the witty writing, great plot, and deep insight to mind that it didn't turn out like I thought it would. This book will stick with me, I think. Certainly made me think, drew me into the characters, and I enjoyed that. Two of the big things I learned were: People aren't as simple as they seem no matter what side of the fence they are on, and just because God called you to one path doesn't mean He didn't or can't call someone else to a path divergent from yours. Learn to find God's path for you and walk it with respect for others. A lesson that seemed quiet apt to my life right now during the pandemic.

A war novel like I've never read! Totally unique setting and plot. I really enjoyed this book, a little mystery, a tiny romance and a whole lot of great growth. Surprising amounts of character development in one book. Some characters will resonate and some will not, but they all give different perspectives. I love that it didn't give pithy answers but allowed for real life struggles all with genuine reasoning. Godly living and forgiveness were central themes.
