**From the *New York Times* bestselling author of *The Wedding Dress* comes a new captivating novel of secrets, romance, and two women bound together across time by a shared dream.**

Tenley Roth's first book was a runaway bestseller. Now that her second book is due, she's locked in fear. Can she repeat her earlier success or is she a fraud who has run out of inspiration?

With pressure mounting from her publisher, Tenley is weighted with writer's block. But when her estranged mother calls asking Tenley to help her through chemotherapy, she packs up for Florida where she meets handsome furniture designer Jonas Sullivan and discovers the story her heart's been missing.

A century earlier, another woman wrote at the same desk with hopes and fears of her own. Born during the Gilded Age, Birdie Shehorn is the daughter of the old money Knickerbockers. Under the strict control of her mother, her every move is decided ahead of time, even whom she'll marry. But Birdie has dreams she doesn't know how to realize. She wants to tell stories, write novels, make an impact on the world. When she discovers her mother has taken extreme measures to manipulate her future, she must choose between submission and security or forging a brand new way all on her own.

Tenley and Birdie are from two very different worlds, but fate has bound them together in a way time cannot erase.

    Good Read

It took me a little bit to get into this book. But once I clicked with it I thought it was a great read. This is a dual time line and she did it well, I do love books that do this. It may not be for everyone though. After I got past the first few chapters it was hard to put down. Would look at reading some more by this author.

    Captivating

Rachel Hauck has a way of story-telling and with words! You can be guaranteed to delve right into the character's lives within the first few chapters. The vulnerability and steadfastness of Tenley and Jonas is beautiful - a natural, unforeseen attraction that blossoms into a lasting romance. Not only is their story inviting, but so is that of Eli and Birdie from the 1900s. Birdie is determined to find happiness and marry for love at any cost, yet she is loyal. Eli and Birdie's relationship adds depth to the story, making it a fulfilling read as it sheds light to the current day circumstances. With the perspectives from 4 different people, the reading experience is wholesome because it gives a rounded understanding of the story and its characters. Hauck's writing style won't have you confused but will capture your heart making it difficult to tear away from the pages. You will feel the emotions and attractions, you will feel included in the family, and your senses will be intoxicated with the romance. Enjoy

    Beautiful romance

I was a bit uncertain as to whether I'd like this book or not, mostly due to the dual-time story, but I really loved it! Yes, there were two stories going at once - one contemporary and one in the past - but they were so beautifully interwoven that they really complimented each other. And, of course, I had to keep reading to find out exactly where they would meet. Loved the romance, the reality of not-so-romance-novel-real-life-romance and the depth of relationships between the characters and their families. Such a beautiful, hope-filled story of two women's journeys through some really challenging circumstances. Can't wait to read more by this author!

    Beautifully Rounded Out

I enjoyed the cross-generational interweaving of these stories and families. The way He is able to bring beauty from ashes and restore broken hearts.

    Somewhat good.

The author has amazing skill to weave together a story from 4 points of view. My caution is that, though the reality of chemotherapy is well researched and presented, the reality of sexual immorality's risks and consequences is not. A young person could get the impression that if her boyfriend had multiple partners before marriage - all is forgiven when they repent and there are no consequences. """"Marry him and be happy. """" Where I live in an area approximately 50kms by 25kms there are 20 people a month dying of AIDs with 700 confirmed cases HIV positive. Some of these are Christians but they do not escape. The world would vaccinate you for HPV and tell you about """"safe sex"""" but they admit there really is no cure for viruses. Grudgingly they admit God's standard of faithfulness will prevent STDs. Where are the Christian novellists who will write about premarital tests for STDs and counting the cost if the beloved has siphilis etc? I have yet to meet one. And the funerals here continue. . .
