This book, as with the first two in the series, was captivating from the first page. Knights, castles, enemies and unexpected allies - history comes to life in this fascinating time-travel story. I loved seeing the characters grow into themselves and their gifts as they faced every day in such a different world. It was interesting seeing how they dealt with the fact that, having travelled back in time and therefore knowing the 'future', they knew the plague was coming. Every decision therefore was based on the weight of knowing so much of Europe was about to die. Which both upped the stakes and made each day count more. Technically, it's a young adult book but it would appeal to anyone who loves history, Italy, time travel or the sweet romance of young hindered love. Such a great story!

This book is the third currently published in the River of Time Series. It begins with Gabi and Lia, our modern day, jeans-wearing heroines, on a quest to find their father and prevent his recent death. \\r\\n\\r\\nIn this book, the whole family travels to medieval Italy through the time portal, but arrives to find things slightly changed. The family faces battles and danger as they search for the heroes, Marcello and Luca. Marcello has lost his fortress, his brother has been abducted and is near death, and the countryside is no longer safe for his subjects. \\r\\n\\r\\nAfter reuniting with the boys, Gabi and Lia face a new threat - a protective father who may stand in the way of true love. There are action-packed battle sequences, heart-wrenching betrayals, death-defying escapes, ruthless enemies and hopelessly-romantic heroes who risk their lives to rescue the girls. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis novel lives up to the reputation of the earlier two books in the series, Waterfall and Cascade, and in some ways even surpasses them. There are twists you won't see coming, a new love interest and I certainly shed a tear or two in at least three different places. \\r\\n\\r\\nAnd don't worry - this is not a series which ends with unanswered questions. There is a dramatic and romantic conclusion to the Gabi- Marcello-Rodolfo love triangle, a final battle which goes very differently than expected, and there are some reassuring, yet intriguing hints at Lia and Luca's future. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis is a…
