    Give this one a miss

My husband and I received this book as a gift. Unfortunately it is now sitting on our bookshelf unfinished. We completed 3 devotions before agreeing that the Bible verses and content are repeatedly inconsistent. We are interested in how to grow together to be like Christ, based on the Bible. This book does not do that.

    Not particularly helpful

This book left us wanting on many levels. \\r\\nFirstly, each study seems to have a significant amount of text quoted from a 'third party' not written by the authors themselves. \\r\\nSecondly was the interpretation of Scriptures within the study. One of the studies focussed on Obadiah 1:2-7,""""The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, 'Who can bring me down on the ground?'. . . """" and then goes on to ask the question,""""What is success? (It) is progressive realization of worthwhile goals! Yes, that's the whole idea of success. """" The study then goes on to tell the reader to write down goals for success and how you will achieve them. It just seemed to me to run completely contrary to the passage's theme. \\r\\nThe latest issue came up in last night's study where the authors said,""""What good does it do a man to gain the whole world and lose his own family. """" When I read Luke 9:25 I see Jesus' call for dramatic sacrificial discipeship. . . not reinforcing middle class notions of warm and cozy Christianity that provides worldly notions of success and family. \\r\\nMy husband and I were looking for devotionals to deepen our time together with God and unfortunately this book did not meet any of our hopes and expectations.
