Novellas by three of today's most exciting suspense authors - in one volume. All of them have vivid, pacy contemporary settings and involve women caught up in complex webs of injustice, relationship, and murder. The novellas are Betrayed, Deadly Isle, and Code of Ethics.
In Dee Henderson's novella "Betrayal," Janelle Roberts is freed--thanks to people she doesn't know--after serving six years of a twenty-year sentence for a murder she did not commit. But a murderer is still at large, and Janelle needs to be somewhere safe with someone she can trust. She may not survive another betrayal.
In Dani Pettrey's "Deadly Isle," Tennyson Kent is trapped on the isolated island of her childhood by a storm surge, and she is shocked when the typically idyllic community turns into the hunting grounds of a murderer. Cut off from any help from the mainland, will she and first love Callen Frost be able to identify and stop a killer bent on betrayal before they become the next victims?
In Lynette Eason's "Code of Ethics," trauma surgeon Ruthie St. John saves the life of Detective Isaac Martinez. After a betrayal leads to him getting shot and then attacked while in recovery, Isaac is now a key witness determined to testify. But someone is intent on silencing him--and those around him--forever. Together, Ruthie and Isaac go on the run, desperate to escape the killers hunting him.

This book contains three novellas by three of the most popular writers of Christian romantic suspense. \\n\\nFirst up is Dee Henderson's story about a woman wrongly jailed for murdering her ex-boyfriend. But will she be safe from the real killer when she's freed? It's well-written and has some interesting characters; however, I felt it didn't match the 'suspense' tag promised on the cover. It's really a police procedural, and I wasn't happy with the resolution. Perhaps the characters will be followed up in another story?\\n\\nNext is Dani Pettrey's tale of a woman trapped on her island home during a storm. Will she and her former love find the killer in time? This one had a lot more suspense; however I felt the novella length may have worked against it at times, with some links seeming rushed. \\n\\nLynette Eason's story involved a trauma doctor trying to keep an honest cop from getting killed while he exposes the crooked cops in his department. This one had some good suspense and the right scope for a novella, though it did stretch credibility a little at times. \\n\\nOverall, I enjoyed this collection. It's a good holiday read and a great way to sample the work of these popular authors.

Each one gets better
I found it very hard to work out the star rating as each story in this book is so different. The last book by Lynette Eason was brilliant. Great plot, great suspense, lovable characters. Worth five stars. The first book by Dee Henderson was the one I found disappointing and it brought my overall star rating way down. A lot of speculation as characters tried to work out what had happened, a lot of mundane life talk, and then no revelation at the end of what really happened. Maybe the author is being clever and leaving the reader to feel like people do in real life when cases aren't solved. I just didn't like it in a book. Worth buying for Dani Pettrey and Lynnette Eason's stories, though.

Short and Sweet
I was hesitant to start reading this collection of short stories, namely because they're well known authors who have written thrilling books in a lot more words. It takes talent to write a short story with twists and complex characters without losing the story's integrity. I was not at all disappointed at Dee Henderson's Betrayal. It set a high standard for the next 2 stories to follow. Betrayed will invite you back into the world of Paul and Ann Falcon, which was a nice continuation from where their story finished. No time was wasted trying to develop characters, instead focus was on narrative development - and it was great! Intrigue, probable conclusions, peaceful island. From here, having read the book in order, I was a little disappointed as the stories felt shallow - not as much character development and quick resolutions to the crimes. At times it felt a little unrealistic, which is a shame. However, this is a collection of short stories and so there had to be a little compromise somewhere. All in all though, an entertaining read. Each story was short and sweet. Enjoy :)
