Meg Pero has been assisting her photographer father since she was big enough to carry his equipment, so when he dies she is determined to take over his profession--starting with fulfilling the contract he signed to serve on an Army survey of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in 1871. What she doesn't realize is that the leader of the expedition is none other than the man she once refused to marry.

Captain Ben Coleridge would like nothing more than to leave without the woman who broke his heart, but he refuses to wait even one more day to get started. This survey is a screen for another, more personal mission, one he cannot share with any member of his team.

As dangers arise from all sides, including within the survey party, Meg and Ben must work together to stay alive, fulfill their duties, and, just maybe, rekindle a love that neither had completely left behind.

    Murder mystery.

It seems like a well written book but I don't like murder mysteries and would not have bought it if I had known that the 'secret' involved a murder. Guess my reading options are getting very narrowed as trauma, suicide and murder seem popular subjects :(

    Interesting historical romance

In this Christian historical romance set in Arizona in 1871, photographer Meg Pero accompanies a survey team on an expedition to determine if there is a spot where a wagon route could be constructed across the Grand Canyon. The expedition is led by the dashing Captain Ben Coleridge-- an army engineer and former suitor whose heart Meg broke five years earlier. However, both Meg and Ben see each other in a different light as their journey progresses. There are dangers along the way, as well as a secret mission that Ben hasn't told his crew. Can Meg and Ben find a way to make their relationship work?\\n\\nThis novel covers an interesting part of history I knew little about, and the research was excellent. The main characters were likable and I cared what happened to them. Setting and description were done really well so that I felt I was right there with them. The writing was excellent, and I liked the way the faith issues were woven in. \\n\\nMy only hesitation is that I felt it was a bit slow in places. There was some action and a few dangers, but I would have liked more. I felt it could have been condensed a little without affecting the overall story. I also didn't think the issue towards the end regarding the cousin was necessary. \\n\\nHowever, I did enjoy the book overall and would be interested in reading more in this series. If you like historical fiction set in some less-travelled times and locations, you'll find a lot to enjoy in this book.
