Winner of The Gospel Coalition 2019 Book Awards - First-Time Author

Less than a century ago, most people died at home. Today, 80 percent of Americans die in institutions such as hospitals or nursing homes. The dying process-once a visible reality of life-now hides behind a complex web of medical technology, and few Americans discuss end-of-life care before it becomes urgent. Faced with crucial decisions, Christian patients and loved ones struggle to understand how their faith should inform their treatment. Covering topics such as ventilators, dialysis, artificially administered nutrition, physician-assisted suicide, hospice, and more, this book offers a distinctly Christian guide to end-of-life care, simplifying common medical jargon and exploring biblical principles that individuals and families need in order to navigate the transition from this life to the next.

    Great Insight

I bought this book 2 days ago and have just finished reading it. Very easy to read style, full of wisdom, backed up by scripture, on a very difficult topic. \\r\\n\\r\\nAs I navigate my way through my own terminal illness, Dr Butler's insights have helped me to start formulating how I feel about my own end-of-life care. \\r\\n\\r\\nIn this day and age, we are surrounded by no end of interventions that can keep us alive far longer than we once would have imagined. Dr Butler clearly helps us to understand the difference between life-saving and death-prolonging measures. This, in turn, enables the reader to create well thought out and truly informed end-of-life directives. \\r\\n\\r\\nThankyou, Dr Butler, for taking the time to write on a difficult and often taboo subject, in such a caring, thoughtful and easy to read manner. \\r\\n\\r\\nA must read, for anyone who wants to be well prepared, when facing death - of a loved one or their own. Highly Recommended.
