Merchant's daughter Lydia loves three things: her father, her ancestral home, and making purple dye. When betrayal forces her to flee to Philippi, Lydia struggles to establish her dye business. A meeting with the apostle Paul is the beginning of her journey out of fear.

*Purple*. The foundation of an influential trade in a Roman world dominated by men. One woman rises up to take the reins of success in an incredible journey of courage, grit, and friendship. And along the way, she changes the world.

Determination and serendipitous acquaintances along with her father's precious dye help her become one of the city's preeminent merchants. But fear lingers in every shadow, until Lydia meets the apostle Paul and hears his message of hope, becoming his first European convert. Still, Lydia can t outrun her secrets forever, and when past and present collide, she must either stand firm and trust in her fledgling faith or succumb to the fear that has ruled her life.

    Uplifts the Soul

A well crafted story based on Biblical events. Captured were the realities of life, especially the hardships faced by unmarried women living in Rome. God and the Holy Spirit were woven into every aspect. I was encouraged and so uplifted reading about Lydia and her steps of faith, and how God gave her Bread of Angels (manna) in his perfect timing. The first story I have read by Tessa Afshar, with another one lined up. The Bible brought to life.

    Another good story

\\nI love these stories. This one started off a little slowly and I wasn't sure that I'd like it but it kept getting better and better. Loved some of the characters and the wisdom that they shared. Please keep writing.

    Biblical Account of Lydia

I love that this story is set in the biblical times. I found the biblical account of Lydia engaging right from the start. The story is wonderfully written with some very interesting characters. I never realised until after reading this story that Lydia was the first person to become a Christian and her home become the first church in Europe. This book is a good choice for those readers who like biblical history and a bit of romance.

    historical fiction

Bread of Angels is another historical fiction writtten by Tessa Afshar. I found this novel well written overall. The story focuses on a young woman named Lydia and her choices and challenges throughout her life. It is based on the new testament era and the research completed is fascinating. It is the best novel i have read written by her.

    Historically accurate.

Set in past times. Obviously the author has done a lot of research and the book is wonderfully historically accurate. However, slightly hard to relate to with a few unusual characters.
