    Warning for Confessional Churches

This book written by WGT Shedd is a hard read because it deals with a subject that only the confessional minded Christians can appreciate. It is composed of articles written by this able reformed scholar who laboured in the PCUS before and around the time when this denomination made strives to revise its confessional standards. Shedd resisted these changes and wrote numerious articles to win his brethren over to his side enshrined in this work for future generation of Christians to learn from. He wins me over that while revision is sometimes called for it is a precarious business in the life of a church with many dangers and difficulties lurking in the background. I guess his opposition to the revision advocated by various factions proved to be disastrous to the PCUS going liberal. I highly recomment this book to all PCA(ust) ministers but perhaps that boat has sailed. Perhaps some New Calvinists out there may also benefit from it but what makes it a hard read is that Shedd touches upon those doctrines which are most questioned in the Calvinistic system, like predestination, infant salvation, the love of God etc. Pick this title up if you dare to be challenged.
