A disgraced scholar running from her past and an entrepreneur chasing his future find themselves thrown together-and fall in love-on a Tolkien tour of New Zealand.

Allison Shire (yes, like where the Hobbits live) is a disgraced academic who is done with love. Her belief in "happily ever after" ended the day she discovered her husband was still married to a wife she knew nothing about. She finally finds a use for her English degree by guiding tours through the famous sites featured in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. By living life on the road and traveling New Zealand as a luxury tour guide, Allison manages to outrun the pain of her past she can't face.

Jackson Gregory was on the cusp of making it big. Then suddenly his girlfriend left him-for his biggest business competitor-and took his most guarded commercial secrets with her. To make matters worse, the Iowa farm that has been in his family for generations is facing foreclosure. Determined to save his parents from financial ruin, he'll do whatever it takes to convince his wealthy great-uncle to invest in his next scheme, which means accompanying him to the bottom of the world to spend three weeks pretending to be a die-hard Lord of the Rings fan, even though he knows nothing about the stories. The one thing that stands between him and his goal is a know-it-all tour guide who can't stand him and pegged him as a fake the moment he walked off the plane.

When Allison leads the group through the famous sites of the Tolkien movies, she and Jackson start to see each other differently, and as they keep getting thrown together on the tour, they find themselves drawn to each other. Neither expected to fall in love again, but can they find a way beyond their regrets to take a chance on the one thing they're not looking for?

    Great local talent

I very much enjoyed this offering from Kara Isaac. I had a trip to New Zealand cancelled by Covid just four days before we were due to leave, and reading Allie and Jackson's adventures through the country 'across the ditch' made me even keener to get going. I've never read or watched anything to do with The Lord of the Rings, and even though everyone in the book were avid fans, my lack of fandom didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story, which had enough humour and sweet romance to stand without making all the Hobbit connections. So many disasters befell these two, before an eventual satisfying ending. If you love a good rom-com, give this one a try.

    New Zealand at its finest

This book made me want to book a plane ticket to New Zealand straight away! It also made me be very intrigued about the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit. It made me laugh out loud and sign and be on the edge of my seat with the uncertainity of how it was going to finish! It was a very entertaining read. \\r\\nThis romance has a contemporary lovehate story line. The main characters both don't have a strong faith in God. So the book takes the reader on a journey of the characters learning to like and love each other as well as a spiritual journey of trusting God again. \\r\\nWeaved throughout the book are references to the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. As well as beautiful and interesting descriptions of various locations in New Zealand where the characters visit as part of their Luxury Lord of the Rings Tour. \\r\\nI can say as someone who has never read or watched the Lord of the Rings that this did not affect my enjoyment of the book. I did not feel that I needed the background knowledge at all. I was as ignorant as Jackson and that was totally okay! \\r\\nI would recommend this book for anyone who wants a really interesting, romantic and funny contempory read.

    Loved it!

Awwwww!!! What a beautiful, engaging, hilarious, challenging, romantic, epic book! I loved this story with its romance between two people determined to hate each other amidst the fun of a Lord of the Rings tour through New Zealand. If you know Tolkein's books well, you'll enjoy it even more given all the literary references but even if you can't tell an elf from an orc, you'll still enjoy it as enough is explained to understand (without overdoing the explanations). Can't wait to read more by this author!

    Great

I'm always happy to find an author who lives in the southern hemisphere, so I was excited to discover Kara Isaac. She definitely has a refreshing, unique 'voice' as an author, and her sarcastic, sometimes dark humour definately got a lot of laughs from me!\\r\\nYou don't have to be a Lord of the Rings fan to enjoy this novel (I'm wasn't!) but it probably helps if you have at least seen the movies. But reading this has inspired me to now read Tolkein's books.

    Fun for Tolkien Fans

I really enjoyed this story even though I have never read any of Tolkien's books. If you are a fan of his you will love this book. Allison has a Ph. D. majoring in Tolkien yet is a tour guide in New Zealand taking people around all the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit sites. It is engaging and funny. I related more to Jackson who is one of the tourists who knows nothing about Tolkien's books yet is trying to pretend he does. This was a fun book to read.
