Too often Christians pick and choose which social causes they are willing to engage in based on what our culture deems ?fashionable? while remaining silent on others out of discomfort or fear of personal persecution. But the Bible makes it abundantly clear that is not what Christ's followers are called to do.

In *Counter Culture*, *New York Times* bestselling author David Platt redefines social justice from a biblical standpoint and makes a compelling case for why Christians are called to fully and actively surrender themselves to every cause'regardless of personal cost or consequence.

Drawing heavily on Scripture and compelling personal accounts from around the world, Platt presents a pointed yet winsome call for readers to faithfully follow Christ in countercultural ways?ways that will prove both costly and rewarding for the contemporary church.

    Challenging

A very challenging read with a good presentation of the gospel and how it applies to many confronting issues.

“For the greatest way to achieve social and cultural transformation is not by focusing on social and cultural transformation, but by giving our lives to gospel proclamation—to telling others the good news of all God has done in Christ and calling them to follow him. ”

“Jesus has not given us a commission to consider; he has given us a command to obey. ”

“Let’s not merely contemplate the Word of God in the world around us; let’s do what it says (see James 1:22-25). ”

    Equipped!

I feel as though Platt and Francis Chan could be good friends. His manner is very thoughtful, gracious and patient, yet he doesn't skimp over revealed biblical truth and confronts very loaded current issues in light of this without compromising a scriptural stance. Building upon a worldview that starts with God, it proves to be a very powerful apologetic tool to equip a believer and provide an alternate worldview to worldly responses of these same issues.

    Eye opening

In the same train of thought as Nancy Pearcey's work (Total Truth), this book is very eye opening. It calls us to heed the biblical call to be a light in this world. By grappling with very tough topics in a non black-and-white manner as is the terrible tradition of modern Christianity, open roads can be made towards meaningful dialogue with the hope of people encountering Jesus. A very encouraging and challenging read indeed.
