    Excellent Genesis Commentary

The commentary gives the perspective of each unit within the whole of Genesis. This makes it easier for the expositor to get a snapshot without complete re-study of the book. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe book is well laid out, does not contain excessive footnotes, and is easy to read. As a non-Hebrew reader, it is a good balance of Hebrew words without excessive technicalities. His structural outlines are clear. \\r\\n\\r\\nRoss makes a number of helpful observations about the use of Genesis as an argument against pagan religious views of creation and origins. \\r\\n\\r\\nWriting as a conservative evangelical, his discussion of the liberal scholarship around authorship is very helpful for a grasp of the issues involved. \\r\\nHis choice to limit the discussion of the age of the earth was refreshing. Although important, he focused on the message to Israel and Genesis as a polemic against other pagan religions. \\r\\nFinally, his inclusion of additional resources at the end of each chapter would make further study convenient and efficient. \\r\\n\\r\\nHe takes a conservative (Mosaic) approach to authorship of the Pentateuch. \\r\\nHe includes application points for the nation of Israel and the church, however sometimes these are so vague as to be unhelpful. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe commentary is useful for exegetical details of the text, big picture perspective of themes and message of Genesis, and helpful outlines and expositional ideas to help the expositor. Overall, exceptional.
