useful as reference or for personal study

Following the usual format of NIVAC, Longman takes each section of the text and begins by suggesting an interpretation of it, before considering how the observations bear on comtemporary contexts. His treatment of the text is careful and reasonably detailed; I found Longman's interpretation of the apocalyptic section especially helpful: it offers an elegant solution to the question of squaring off the individual visions with each other. This book focuses primarily on the text and its interpretation, glossing over issues regarding the historicity of Belshazzar, Darius and the like. Helpful both for teachers who intend to teach Daniel, and for casual readers to aid their personal study.
