Embarking on the Study of God: Foundations for the Christian Faith

What is theology and how does it work? A premier theologian provides guidance to those seeking to know God

In Embarking on the Study of God, premier theologian Michael Horton guides readers through the humbling yet essential task of learning how to know and understand God. Designed as an accessible introduction to Christian theology, this book helps students, pastors, and thoughtful readers begin the lifelong pursuit of theological study.

What is theology? What are the proper sources of theology? How should Christians approach the study of God? Horton introduces readers to what the Christian tradition has often called "the beautiful science," addressing the foundational presuppositions necessary for doing theology well.

Key topics include:

The nature and character of theology
The sources of Christian theology
The origin and formation of the biblical canon
The relationship between Scripture and the church
Drawing on insights from his landmark systematic theology, The Christian Faith, Horton presents these themes in a clear, engaging, and pastorally sensitive way. Embarking on the Study of God invites readers to embrace the holy task of theological study--grounded in Scripture, shaped by the church, and aimed at the glory of God.Read less
