Everyday theology is the reflective and practical task of living each day as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. In other words, theology is not just for Sundays, and it's not just for professional theologians. Everyday Theology teaches all Christians how to get the theological lay of the land. It enables them to become more conscious of the culture they inhabit every day so that they can understand how it affects them and how they can affect it. If theology is the ministry of the Word to the world, everyday theologians need to know something about that world, and Everyday Theology shows them how to understand their culture make an impact on it. Engaging and full of fresh young voices, this book is the first in the new Cultural Exegesis series.

    Helpful insight into evaluating culture

The goal of the authors is to convince the reader that Christians need to think theologically and critically about the world we live in and the cultural environment which is constantly and discreetly presenting various cultural influences (e. g. media, advertising, design). \\r\\n\\r\\nThey argue that these cultural texts and trends attempt to influence people toward a way of thinking and meaning, and the responsibility is for Christians to evaluate and be aware of these influences. \\r\\nFinally, they address how Christians should respond to these influences in light of Scripture and the gospel. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe opening essay, although dry and lengthy, is extensive and convincing of the need to be aware of and evaluate cultural influences. Each of the other essays are thought provoking and insightful into culture (warning: some readers may find the use of some song lyrics in an examination of """"Eminem"""" unhelpfully graphic). These are broad and include evaluations of: supermarket and shopping centre layout, movies, internet blogs, and more. \\r\\n\\r\\nFinally, the concluding chapter offers a helpful practical example of what wedding planning could look like if aware of the influence of culture. \\r\\n\\r\\nOverall, a helpful, needed, book which will help the reader become more aware of evaluating cultural influences. \\r\\n
