What does worship look like? Is there just one truly right way to worship? Are there any wrong ways? To what extent should our unity as believers manifest itself in unified public worship?

Sadly, disagreement over how we should worship our loving God has sparked some most unloving attitudes among Christians. EXPLORING THE WORSHIP SPECTRUM seeks to correct this. It provides a forum for presentation, critique, and defense of six prominent worship styles:

Formal-Liturgical - Paul Zahl

Traditional Hymn-Based - Harold Best

Contemporary Music-Driven - Joe Horness

Charismatic - Don Williams

Blended - Robert Webber

Emerging - Sally Morgenthaler

This unique format allows those with a heart for worship to compare different perspectives and draw their own conclusions on what the Bible teaches. It engages the reader's faculties of critical thinking in a way that allows him or her to understand the various approaches to worship, carefully evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, and make personal choices without adopting a judgmental spirit.

    Modern Evangelifish Worship

This book presents 6 differing worship styles in modern evangelical churches today, everything from hymn-based piano/organ led worship to charismatic/Pentecostal free-for-all. I picked up the book to see primarily how these differing advocates use Scripture to justify there diverse positions and to learn the motivations behind there opinions. Glaringly one position was missing which today is not known, namely the acapella exclusive psalmody position. Interestingly this dates back to the early Calvinistic churches in England and in the Continent but virtually forgotten or ignored today. I guess to include this biblical form of worship which is well attested to in the apostolic church and synagogue worship would have been too jarring and polarising for the intended audience. Yet this was the norm in evangelical churches all the way up to the late 1700s and early 1800s (not including the Lutherans). This demonstrates how far evangelicalism has come and what great need there is for the reformation of worship in our churches and to return to the old paths of our evangelical forefathers who sought to render to our Sovereign God the worship and praise which he instituted in his Word. Don't bother with this volume instead pick up a copy of The Necessity of Reforming the Church by John Calvin or read Chapter 21 of the Westminster Confession of Faith.
