A Book That Rebukes Our Preoccupation with Self. Highly Recommended.

This book by Larry Crabb contains an important and powerful message for the church. Crabb observes that in our psychological culture today, Christians have become a people more concerned with solving their problems than finding God. They have become a people who use God to solve their problems. The author argues that when we accord a higher priority on solving our problems than on pursuing God, this is immoral. Crabb contends that we should instead use our problems to find God. Our problems may not be solved but we can and we need to move through our problems toward finding God. God reveals Himself to people who want to know Him more than they want anything else. He reveals Himself to people who trust His goodness and who believe that He can be trusted with the things that matter most. To quote Crabb,""""As we struggle through the problems of life, the most important question we can ask is not, 'How can I solve my problems?' but rather, 'How can I develop a burning passion for knowing Christ that will overwhelm all other passions and reduce them to secondary concerns?'"""" This book rebukes our self-preoccupation with our own happiness and challenges us to make the pursuit of God our utmost priority in life and through life's problems. Highly recommended reading!
