Dee Henderson Is Back!

Ann Silver is a cop's cop. As the Midwest Homicide Investigator, she is called in to help local law enforcement on the worst of cases, looking for answers to murder. Hers is one of the region's most trusted investigative positions.

Paul Falcon is the FBI's top murder cop in the Midwest. If the victim carried a federal badge or had a security clearance, odds are good Paul and his team see the case file or work the murder.

Their lives intersect when Ann arrives to pass a case off her desk and onto his. A car wreck and a suspicious death offer a lead on a hired shooter he is tracking. Paul isn't expecting to meet someone, the kind that goes on the personal side of the ledger, but Ann Silver has his attention.

The better he gets to know her, the more Paul realizes her job barely scratches the surface of who she is. She knows spies and soldiers and U.S. Marshals, and has written books about them. She is friends with the former Vice President. People with good reason to be cautious about who they let into their lives deeply trust her. Paul wonders just what secrets Ann is keeping, until she shows him the John Doe Killer case file, and he starts to realize just who this lady he is falling in love with really is...

    Good romantic suspense

When homicide investigator Ann Silver and FBI agent Paul Falconi meet while working a case, sparks fly, yet there's more to Ann than meets the eye. What secrets lay beneath the surface?\\n\\nThis was Dee Henderson's first novel in about six years. The main characters were interesting, though a bit too perfect. There was a bit of a twist in that the character of Ann had actually written the O'Malley series that Dee Henderson had written in real life. I liked seeing some of the O'Malley characters again, but it sounded like self-promotion after a while. \\n\\nThe two criminal cases were interesting enough, but a bit too drawn out which made it seem like a police procedural at times. It wasn't too difficult to work out that the two cases would be linked in some way, though I didn't guess the exact twist. I'm also not sure how I feel about the fact that Linda Smythe's character was made to appear sympathetic - can't say more due to spoilers, but there was something that unsettled me about that. It was an original turn though. I also liked Ann's take on the relationship she had with the Holy Spirit. The faith issues were dealt with sensitively and showed a more personal side. \\n\\nOverall, I did enjoy dipping into another Dee Henderson book after such a long drought, but I thought the 474-page book was overly long given the plot. I'll keep reading, but still like the O'Malley series best. \\n

    Excellent Reading

Wow, what can I say? Author Dee Henderson's characterisation is nothing short of brilliant. It won't be long before you feel that Paul Ann (the main character's) are old and familiar friends. The way Henderson captures the complexities of personalities, especially Ann's, is phenomenal. I could easily see this playing out on a screen as FBI drama wrapped in a beautiful love story. Henderson paints the relationship that unfolds between Paul and Ann as realistic and has so many layers - it's a very enjoyable and deep read.

    WOW!!

What an incredible story. I love the layers that Dee has added to the story for the characters and how they have depth and intrigue. You really don't expect the story to fold out the way it does, which makes it incredible and truly suspenseful. Also, the way Paul is patient and encouraging to Ann portrays great love and kindness.

    Real

Anne is an independent woman who has great tact and strategy with dealing with her work as a cop. \\r\\n\\r\\nPaul takes great pride in solving the cases that come across his desk and wants to climb the FBI hierarchy ladder. \\r\\n\\r\\nTheir paths cross when dealing with one case that turns into two cases as the leads develop. Paul wants to break Anne's protective shell that she has built around herself, yet Anne is determined to not get attached. \\r\\n\\r\\nI found that I liked Anne's independence but her stubbornness frustrated me a bit. I loved how she learned to trust Paul. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe case was solved in a manner that surprised the reader and involved skill \\r\\n\\r\\nI would definitely recommend this book \\r\\n
