The Kansas community of Fairland anticipates the arrival of their new minister and in recent months, late in 1882, postmistress Grace Cristler has communicated with Reverend Dille via letters, answering his questions about the little town, and developing affection for the man who pens thoughtful missives.

Theophil Garrison grew up under the loving influence of his saintly grandmother, but was roped into his cousins' train-robbing plan. When they fail and are apprehended, Theo fled the scene, evading jail time. Now an angry cousin is out to avenge Theo's duplicity, and he's on the run. He encounters a fatally ill traveler--a minister. Seeing a way to keep hidden, Theo trades identities with the man, dons his fine black suit, carries a Bible, and prays that he'll be accepted as Rufus Dille.

Once in Fairland, if Theo's true identity is uncovered, what will be left of the world he has built for himself, Grace, and those in the town who have come to love and accept him?

    A touching story

Even though the story-line was rather predictable there were some good biblical truths how Christians can make an impact in someones life, as in the character of Earl; which gave me food for thought. The story is set in a small country town and the Author has painted a wonderful picture of life in such a small town. I was intrigued to find out how the Preacher in this story was going to get out of the interesting situation he created. The characters Bess and Philemon in the story are so likeable. The story highlights some childhood similarities between the two characters Grace and Theo. An enjoyable read.

    Meets all expectations

I've learnt that I can rely on Kim Vogel Sawyer to provide entertaining, inspirational books that are well worth the time and money to read them. Grace and the Preacher is no exception. There is humour as the young man, Theo, pretends to be a preacher, presenting Biblical truths he didn't know he knew without the restraint of religion or 'political correctness. ' That was refreshing and inspirational. There is romance as Grace and Theo grow together in faith. And there is inspiration as we watch God work all things together for the good of those who love him - after many ups and downs, but still a satisfying conclusion. Definitely worth reading.
