"Award-winning author Hedlund continues to perfect her craft..."--*Publishers Weekly*After her father's death, Caroline Taylor has grown confident running the Windmill Point Lighthouse. But in 1865 Michigan, women aren't supposed to have such roles, so it's only a matter of time before the lighthouse inspector appoints a new keeper--even though Caroline has nowhere else to go and no other job available to her.

Ryan Chambers is a Civil War veteran still haunted by the horrors of battle. He's been given the post as lighthouse keeper, and the isolation where he can drown in drink and hide from his past is appealing. He's not expecting the current keeper to be a feisty and beautiful woman who's none-too-pleased to be giving up her position. They both quickly realize he's in no shape to run the lighthouse, but Ryan's unwilling to let anyone close, ravaged by memories and guilt. Caroline's drawn to this wounded soul, but with both of them relying on that single position, can they look past their loss to a future filled with hope...and possibly love?

    Book 2 in the series

Loving this series. I love how she has brought a character from the last book and made this book about him. It just connects the series so well. \\nIt is also interesting to read at the end about who she based the characters off of from real life people and the lighthouses. \\nLoved this story it reminds me how quickly we leap into judge and condemn a person. Whereas Caroline in this book realised that we all have our own struggles and instead of condemning Ryan she encouraged and supported him.

    A Captivating story

I was hooked from the first page and found myself completely caught up with the heartbreak Caroline and her family faces after a tragic event that changes Caroline's life. Caroline faces many challenges after the tragedy, having to care for her sisters and brothers and still continue to be keeper of the lighthouse. Caroline faces a unknown future when a new lighthouse keeper is appointed. Ryan, the new lighthouse keeper arrives at the lighthouse facing his own challenges from events that happened in his past, hoping to start a new life while struggling to forget the past. Readers will be moved by this story of loss, faith, forgiveness, redemption, hope and love. From start to finish this book is engaging, tender-hearted with some mystery and suspense to get you turning the pages to find out what will happen to Caroline and Ryan. A captivating story that will capture your heart.
