This is an historical fiction set in Scotland during the 18th century during the time of the Jacobite Rising of 1745 or also known as 'the 45'. I enjoyed reading and learning about the culture, their traditions, their beliefs and superstitions, the day-to-day lives of the people and the hardships they endured throughout this time - a very different time to what we know in the 21st century. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe story is an 18th century version of the first 18 verses of the Bible story of Ruth and Naomi. We see the faith of both Lady Marjory (Naomi) and Lady Elizabeth (Ruth) grow as they go through pain, loss and sorrow, betrayal and redemption. The main themes throughout the book are forgiveness and faithfulness. \\r\\n\\r\\nLady Elizabeth came into the family as a pagan believer but in finding no comfort, answers or guidance from 'The Nameless One', she puts aside her family's traditions and starts to reach out to the 'Almighty One' from the Bible. With total loss of everything - family, husbands, possessions, friends, trust and security, Marjory and Elizabeth now both widows, come to know God is sufficient in all and above all. Sadly the third widowed daughter-in-law does not have as strong a conviction. \\r\\n\\r\\nThe story will continue to unfold in the next book, 'Mine is the Night' where Marjory and Elizabeth return to Elizabeth's hometown with nothing but their devotion to each other and the Almighty God of the Bible. A good read!\\r\\n
