Brilliant book on interpreting the Bible

In just 280 pages, Strauss manages to span interpretative issues in a manner relevant to the home, cafe, or lay Bible study group on the one hand, to the academic setting on the other. After clarifying what the Bible is and is not, Strauss proposes """"a heart-of-God hermenutic: walking with God in his story"""", based around four key questions (page 78), which he subsequently demonstrates on an extended tour of OT and NT genres, before dealing with methods of contemporary application. Of note is chapter five,""""Seeking the heart of God in dialogue"""", which explains the necessity for reading the Bible in community and in light of the church's 2000-year Great Tradition. Very readable. Highly recommended!
