Kate McCord shares compelling true stories drawn from her experience of living in Afghanistan and bringing Jesus' teachings to Afghan women. Readers will gain insight into the harsh realities of life in Afghanistan, and how Christ's radical message is reaching Afghan hearts.
The author speaks the local language and has interviewed and conversed with hundreds of Afghans, both men and women. She listened to their stories and lived among them. And in the midst of all of that, she found Kingdom responses to the beliefs Afghani Muslims hold to be true.
Riveting and fast paced,*In the Land of Blue Burqas* depicts sharing the love and truth of Christ with women living in Afghanistan which has been called "the world's most dangerous country in which to be born a woman." These stories are honest and true. The harsh reality of their lives is not sugar-coated and that adds to the impact of the book. Through storytelling the author shows how people who don't know Christ come to see Him, His truth and His beauty. The stories provide insight into how a Jesus-follower brought Jesus' teachings of the Kingdom of God to Afghanistan. They reveal the splendor of Christ, the desire of human hearts, and that precious instance where the two meet.
This is a collection of vignettes tethered together by the real danger that muslim women face in Afghanistan. These are firsthand accounts from the authors experience drawn from living among these women. The reader will see just how revolutionary Christ's message is today, and how radical it was during Christ's lifetime - the present day Afghan cultural attitudes are not unlike they were 2000 years ago. All of the names of those involved - including Kate's - plus the locations have been changed to protect the participants. Just take a few minutes and read the opening pages. You'll be hooked.

Discerning inspiring\\r\\nThe writer Kate shows a deep understanding of the Afghans she worked with and reveals a wisdom God gave her to share His stories with them. The stories are precious seeds sown in the Afghans' hearts which will grow and bear forth fruit in God's time. I'm amazed at the opportunities Kate had to tell God's stories and the lives she's touched. She learnt a lot about the Afghans' world view and how controlled they are by rules set by their leaders. Her courage to move among a people who look on foreigners with a different faith with hostility is an inspiration. Certainly the local leaders were afraid of the God of love she served because their world view was the opposite. Despite the danger, Kate was exposed to, she continued working there until the situation became unsafe and she had to leave quickly. \\r\\nHer faith grew through her interaction with the people she tried to convey God's love to and her difficult experience is the best thing that happened to her. Her book is engrossing and confirms to me the value and power of telling God's stories. \\r\\nI strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to serve the Lord especially among the Muslims. \\r\\n

Wonderful, educational read
This book was wonderful book and great book to read with a group of people. It's not a book I would not have picked up for myself but once I picked it up I didn't won't to put it down. It tought me so much about Afghans and Muslims, the rituals, prayers and the Holy Quran that come with the faith. Though not only that it made me convicted to go out and spread the word of Jesus in ways that people would relate as Jesus did in his time. Kate challenged me to forgive but take it a step further and bless those whom you forgive. It was a wonderful insightful book with so much depth. I would recommended it to anyone!

From a different angle
McCord has addressed an otherwise serious topic in an empathetic yet light-hearted and even humorous tone. An essential and interesting read for those who are keen to understand the Muslim culture and reach out to its people.

Elegant, Beautiful, Insightful
This book has to be one of my favourite reads in a long time. I could not put this book down from start to finish - the author displayed such an elegance in her writing while maintaining a great deal of insight into the culture of Afghanistan, and the Muslim faith. A must read for anyone interested in reaching out to Muslims or have a heart for reaching the unreached.
