A review of Jobes, Karen H. , and Moises Silva. Invitation to the Septuagint

Invitation to the Septuagint by Karen H. Jobes and Moises Silva is considered by LXX scholars as one of the best introductory textbooks in Septuagint studies. It provides concise and yet deep and thoughtful discussion on probably every area of the present study. The questions of history, relevance in biblical studies and the current trends of LXX research (at the time of publication) is covered in this book. Peter Gentry rightly states """"Invitation is the best entry-level introduction to the burgeoning and complex field of Septuagint studies, bar none"""" (cover of the book). The book also contains five appendixes with extremely helpful information for the one who is undertaking the task of hard work in the Greek Old Testament. The appendixes give the information about organizations and projects, reference works, glossary, list of differences between versification in English Bible and Greek and symbols and abbreviations of the Gottingen Critical edition of the LXX. The book is not only informative but also encourages and promotes the research of the LXX.
