Jeremiah is seen as a prophet of judgment and doom. He understood the  
hard times befalling Judah were the result of people breaking the covenant  
with God. But Jeremiah was also a prophet of hope for those who believed  
God had not forsaken them, even when they were forced into exile. Jeremiah  
knew that the relationship with God could be restored.
