Translation: I like and trust the NRSV, but I find it doesn't have the same flow or flair of the NIV or the NKJV or even, say, the CSB. To me it's a translation for careful study of the word and not e. g. devotions. Unlike many other translations, it also doesn't give off the impression of being reactionary (i. e. a translation like the ESV that was created to 'correct' any perceived biases of previous translations. )

Physically, this is quite a lovely Bible - I hate dust jackets and so threw mine away immediately, leaving a lovely red marbled kind of hardback with gilt lettering. The page quality is beautiful, and the text is dark, clear and clean. It's great, too, to have the Apocrypha (placed in approximate chronological order between the testaments. )

Its one drawback is so petty, but it took a good two stars from it for me because it drives me BATTY - the book is a really weird shape.

It's comparatively wide for its size, almost square shaped, which means it doesn't sit nicely on the shelf, but is squat in height and juts out much further from the shelf than the books on either side of it. This'll either bother you or it won't, but if it will, it REALLY will. Definitely I wouldn't do what I did and buy it sight unseen - at least go into a store and look at it in person to see if it will fit in with your bookshelves or wherever you intend to keep it.
