I first encountered this author's writing in the Counterpoints series titled Are Miraculous Gifts for Today? In fact this was the first theological tome I read outside my bible as a young Christian. What an initiation it was after weeks of confusion on the role miraculous gifts have in a Christian's life and the Church at large. I can honestly say i was not ready to accept the contribution and conclusions of Dr Gaffin at the time nor did i come to a definitive conclusion after reading the book but it did clear away a lot of dead wood and helped me to see that biblical Christians disagree on many things. The book in view here is a development or expansion upon the essay in that book without the essay constraints. This is a short booklet 122p with an index, it packs a punch. It was birthed from a series of lectures given in New Zealand (in our backyard) at a Church conference, so has a pastoral feel and style. No fluff here Gaffin presents the insights he had gleened from his mentor and master Geerhardus Vos and applies it to this thorny question. Masterful, i am fully convinced of Gaffin's conclusions today. Recommend it to everyone struggling with these issues and as a challenge to my Pentecostal brethren. Pick up and read, you will never be the same as you see Christ's person and work illumined by the Glory of the Holy Spirit.
