It happens in marriages, parent-child relationships, friendships, workplaces, and churches: Communication falters, friendships wane, teenagers withdraw, marriages fail, and bitter rifts sever once-strong ties. Christian communities are no exception. Why do so many of our relationships suffer from alienation, indifference, and even hostility?

Author Sam Crabtree believes that often at the heart of these breakdowns is a lack of affirmation. He observes in Scripture that God grants mercy to those who refresh others, and in life that people tend to be influenced by those who praise them. Crabtree shows how a robust “God-centered affirmation ratio” refreshes others and honors God.

*Practicing Affirmation* sounds a call to recognize and affirm the character of Christ in others. When done well, affirmation does not fuel pride in the person, but refreshes them and honors God. All who are discouraged in relationships will find wisdom and practical insight in this book.

    So simple yet so important!

This was a great book. Really practical and helpful in thinking how important affirmation is and how it is really a biblical idea. The first chapter felt like he tried to cover too much, but after that I really settled in to the book and was highlighting bits all over the place. The big take home message for me was to affirm, encourage and refresh people by giving them Christ centred affirmation- where the ultimate praise goes to God, but others get to share in that. Well worth a read- a simple but very important big idea to take hold of.

    Practical

You know you're in trouble if you need a book to learn something as simple as affirmation. But I needed it!\\r\\n\\r\\nThis book covers a very unique subject: how to affirm someone in Christ-centred way. The book is very practical, so if you are like me, then this book will give you great ideas on how to do affirmation. \\r\\n\\r\\nThis book is not for everyone. For those who are in their character easy to affirm other people then you will find this book not particularly useful. But if you are like me, a person who is very high in criticising other people, then this book is a must read. \\r\\n\\r\\n3 out of 5

    Great reading for relationships

In this book, Sam Crabtree shows from the Bible how to praiseaffirm in God-centered ways. He argues that when we affirm in God-centered ways, God is glorified, and we are refreshed. Furthermore, affirmation is the key to every relationships, as he shared from his personal experience. What I'm amazed is from his testimonies about affirming people in God-centered ways, is that he can find something to affirm even in someone that is not worthy of the affirmation (when he shared about how he deals with a hard kid in his class). Great book to read for those who wants to bless others through God-centered affirmations.
