    Great overview of Gossip

This book gives the reader a good understanding of gossip. Explores what it is, why we do it, and most importantly, how Christ's love for us means that we no longer need to engage in it. Is written well and is easy to read and understand. Certainly one of the first books to read if you know someone who struggles with or has been affected by gossip.

He includes lengthy quotations, not just proof texts. \\r\\n\\r\\nQuestions for group discussions and self reflection are given at the end of each chapter with a bonus chapter for church leaders dealing with gossip in their congregations. \\r\\n\\r\\nMitchell provides helpful examples of the principles being applied in real situations. Also, his inclusion of references to modern issues demonstrates cultural awareness. \\r\\n\\r\\nAnother strength is the author's acknowledgement of the challenge of the subject and the need for discernment. He is realistic and thoughtful about the complexities involved with people. \\r\\n\\r\\nFinally, Mitchell's pastoral heart is obvious through his presentation of hope, through the gospel, at the beginning and the end. \\r\\n\\r\\nOne small weakness of the book is his very heavy use of illustrations, with some seeming to add no value. Second, he assumes, rather than explains, why Greek and Hebrew words are important. \\r\\n\\r\\nHe also doesn't address the problem of how good news, seemingly from good motivations, can be gossip and cause damage to relationships. \\r\\n\\r\\nOverall, an…
