The whole of Scripture, Old Testament and New, is being published in a single volume, featuring the beautiful Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition (RSV2CE) translation along with introductions, outlines, and explanatory notes for each biblical book, extensive cross references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and an array of visual and educational aids to bring the message of Scripture into clear focus for Catholic readers.

More than any other study edition of the Bible on the market, the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible is "like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old" (Mt 13:52). It draws insights from the best of modern scholarship as well as the best of the Catholic tradition of interpretation through the ages.

It explains the historical, cultural, literary, and archaeological background of Scripture, while at the same time looking to the Fathers, Doctors, and Councils of the Church for insight into its theological and spiritual teachings. The result is a veritable library of Bible study resources, all under one cover, designed to help readers understand the written Word of God and apply its lessons to their lives today. It is simply the most ambitious undertaking of its kind in our generation.

Top shelf must have study bible

Provides to the point commentary, historical context, unpacks nuances, cross references into Scripture.

Massive book very useful for flip throughs and deep dives.

Apparently took 26 years to publish and you can definitely see it

THE study bible all Catholics should have

Having been a long time user of the New Testament edition of the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, when word first came out that there would be a combined OT/NT edition, a large number of Catholics who had a serious bible study habit were very enthusiastic. Now that it has now made it into publication, this takes precedence as the premier study bible available for Catholics (the Oxford University Press "Catholic Study Bible" is not a particularly good one, even though it has a similar name to this).

For converts like myself from Protestant backgrounds, this is the first study bible with a similar format as study bibles that we had used as Protestants. The study notes are as orthodox as you can get being edited and mostly written by Curtis Mitch and Scott Hahn. The Scripture translation is the Revised Standard Version - Second Catholic Edition which is my preferred Catholic Bible translation (over the Douay-Rheims, ESV-CE and NRSV-CE). The only fault I have about the full study bible is that it is not something you can carry around with ease being at close to 2. 7kgs in weight and a similar physical size as the Macquarie Concise Dictionary. A dream edition would be for this to be printed on lighter Bible paper, smyth-sewn and with a genuine leather cover. Apart from that, I am glad to see that Koorong has this in stock to purchase now. For those from evangelical Protestant backgrounds who want to see for yourselves what Catholics believe about Scripture, to quote the line that…
