    Profoundly moving

This book is a deeply moving story of a friendship between two men - one American and the other Chinese. It speaks of the persecution many Chinese Christians have, and are, experiencing. An incredibly emotional and thought provoking read.

    Deeply moving

I've read a few of Randy Alcorn's non-fiction books before, and was very much blessed by them. This is the first of his fiction books I've tried. I've found Christian fiction quite hit and miss, so was unsure what this would be like. But it's a wonderful read. Wonderful in seeing how God can be present in and through horrendous circumstances to bring about beauty and grace. But it's also a tough read. The persecuted church is always so difficult to read about. This book is a deeply moving, very important read. Highly recommended.

    Thought Provoking

This was a very thought provoking book. It certainly makes you aware and appreciate the freedom that we take for granted way too much. Sometimes we travel along in our own little bubble and forget that not everyone in this world lives in a nice little bubble too. If you are thinking of reading this I would definitely urge you to pick up a copy you will not regret it.

    touching, eye-opening, convicting

Alcorn's primary aim in this book is to alert those in the Western world of Christian persecution currently going on in East Asia. Though fictional, most events (that are depicted as happening on earth) are intended to be representative of the experience of those in underground churches. Taken as a piece of fiction (based, of course, on fact), it is touching and superbly written--the picture on the inside front cover of the book, on which the story is based, is powerful even on its own. By the end of the book, the typical reader in the Western world feels (or perhaps should feel) moved to pray for, give to, and perhaps go to the persecuted church.

    Life changing

My favourite Christian novel. A gripping, life changing story of a Mainland Chinese man and his former US university room-mate. \\r\\nThe chapter on hell is riveting in its despair. \\r\\nRead it. Soak it in. Cry and allow this story to change your perspective on life and why you're on this planet.
