Set the Stars Alight

The first few chapters were sad, but one can't write about finding light and wonder in the dark without writing about some dark times. However, once the first few chapters passed the rest of the book wasn't sad. About a quarter of the way through, the modern story slowed down and stopped skipping over years at a time and settled into more detail about their current life. The old story was weaved with the new in a good balance of suspense and revelations at just the right moment. \\nThis story lingers with me with sweetness. Beautifully written with rich imagery. I loved how she drew me closer to God through the whole story, and I especially loved Galileo's quote about the sun being compared to God's work in our life in the Author's Note.

This was just a lovely book to read. Felt like an old tale written in that style (in my mind anyway). The writing was so soft and whimsical. I haven't really read a book like this before. I did however find it moved quite slowly. I found myself only being able to read a chapter or two at a time. It wasn't a book I was devouring until the last 80 pages or so, then I found myself turning the pages more eagerly. So if you want to take a leisurely stroll and just sit with a story I think this is perfect.

I have read Amanda's other writings - she just gets better!!\\n\\nIt is difficult to review this book without giving away spoilers - so I will endeavour to portray the sentiment somewhat vaguely to keep from revealing secrets. \\n\\nI do like time-jump novels and this one did not disappoint. What captivated me was the unique way the author simultaneously threaded the history, the lives, the mystery/intrigue and the emotions of the characters through time. I connected with the characters in a deeper more powerful way. By connecting the emotions and personal development of the contemporary and historical characters the knowing of and intimacy with them was more thoroughly developed. It is rare to find a book that brings history to life, providing laugh out loud moments contrasted with the sting of tears. \\n\\nWell done!!\\n
