Margaret Daley knows how to mix up the perfect book, with just the right amount of suspense, romance and faith-building message to keep the reader turning the pages. Shattered Silence tells the story of Liliana, a strong-willed, independent woman with a family to protect, and Cody, a faith-filled Texas Ranger who discovers how desperately he wants to help her do that. Thanks to Cody's perseverance and God's faithfulness, we finally see Liliana surrender her past and embrace a future in which she has learnt to rely on others a bit more. Each character has to learn to trust God as they face and overcome some aspect of bullying in their lives, and learn to trust others too. \\r\\nI highly recommend this book, and you don't have to have read the first book in the series, as they are not connected in any way. \\r\\n\\r\\n

I was looking forward to this book after reading Saving Hope. This book is just as good if not better. This time it deals with bullying and how it can stay with a person well into adulthood. As a victim of bullying I understand this very well and how it has lasting effects on a life. This book we see Liliana working with Cody to solve the spate of murders of illegals. Cody has moved to get his son away from the extremist views of his step father and we can see how he feels about people who are different to him. This book shows how easy bullying can happen and how we often dont realise comments or actions we may think are funny or not even think about can affect another person. The mystery of the murders is also interesting trying to find out who is involved and why they are happening. I really enjoyed this book. \\r\\nThanks to netgalley for my review copy

Liliana Rodriguez is a detective on the Durango Police force. Her partner has recently retired due to injury, so when a murder victim is discovered, Liliana is paired with Cody Jackson, the new Texas Ranger in town. Soon another murder victim is found. . . then two more. Four victims in three days, with no obvious relationship between them. Yet there must be something connecting the victims. Outside work Cody and Liliana each have their own problems, Cody with his son, and Liliana with her sister, who is married to an abusive man but can't be persuaded to leave him. Shattered Silence covers a lot of ground - murder, racism, domestic violence, school bullying (along with a dose of faith and some romance). It does it all well, but it's almost as if there are too many subplots that end up taking focus off the main murder plot. A good book, certainly, but not a great book.
