The prophet Isaiah urged the people of God living under extreme stress to remember that their strength would be found in quietness and trust. The Psalmist urged worshippers that to be still was key to their worship. Jesus reminded people that sitting in quietness was better than a life of hectic busyness. Even the writer Henry David Thoreau when asked the secret of life, replied, "Simplify, simplify, simplify." Almost everyone feels the demands on the limited resources of time and money—so how do we build quiet, rest, and simplicity into our lives? Technology can help, but it often adds more stress. Planning is useful, but it often means that we end up doing more and increasing our speed in the hours that we have. Multi-tasking might mean that we get more done, but it's no substitute for the peace of a more balanced life. Realistically, these demands on our resources will only increase as the pace of life and the options on how to expend our limited resources multiply. *Simplify* is about making choices to restore balance, to build a life schedule founded on the sane realization that we cannot accomplish everything and to learn to live within our limits. By covering issues related to scheduling, pacing your life, saying "no", and even eating more sensibly, *Simplify* helps the reader live with a greater sense of inner contentment, enjoyment of life and increased sense of purpose.

Excellent Strategies for Simplifying Your Life

Bill Hybels looks at ten practices that will help simplify your life and help you to stay energised as you work towards your life goals. There is a little bit of advice about decluttering in one of the chapters, but it's so much more than that. It's about decluttering the inner you as well, whether that's in your work life, your finances, your relationships and more. \\n\\nThe book has a Christian worldview, so there are references to God's purposes and the gifts He has given each of us to fulfil those purposes, but there are also a lot of practical examples that would be relevant to anyone seeking to simplify their lives. He gives lots of anecdotes and step-by-step practical advice so you can actually apply the principles. I've already read some of the chapters twice, as there was so much to take in. The chapter about decluttering your schedule is one I will need to keep returning to. \\n\\nI found the book revolutionary to my thinking in many ways, such as the concept of pruning some relationships so you can deepen others. Some of the material was also challenging, and I didn't necessarily agree with everything, but it was definitely though-provoking. It's a book I know I will need to return to again and again. I can't recommend it highly enough.

    A Must-Read

The title and the sub-title of this book caught my attention. Simplify. Ten Practices to Unclutter Your Soul. As we enter into 2018, this is a book that should be read by every Christian who wants to live a more focused, ordered, wholesome, energized, rested and fulfilling life. In ten chapters, Hybels offers advice, wisdom, insights which show us how we can move from (a) overscheduled to organized, (b) overwhelmed to in control, (c) restless to fulfilled, (d) wounded to whole, (e) anxious to peaceful, (f) isolated to connected, (g) drifting to focused, (h) stuck to moving on, and (i) meaningless to satisfied. This book is highly recommended!

    Essential reading

If you are feeling too busy, overwhelmed or even just caught up in the busyness of day to day living , this is the book for you. Bill Hybels gives very clear steps to help you simplify your life. I really appreciated how this book is set out. In each chapter Bill presents a practice for you to implement. He explains it with biblical and personal examples making it easy to comprehend. So you don't just add knowledge to your life but actually apply what you have just read, each chapter ends with action steps for you to do. I loved having these steps to work on to help me apply the principles and simplify my life. This book can benefit everyone regardless of season of life, or whether you are an at home mum or a CEO of a huge company.
